When you see an OBGYN for treatment of abnormal bleeding, your doctor can recommend numerous options to you so that you can opt for whichever treatment you're most comfortable with. The following are six options your OBGYN might recommend to you for invasive abnormal bleeding treatment. 

Fibroid removal surgery

If your abnormal bleeding is caused by problems with fibroids, your OBGYN might recommend that you undergo fibroid removal surgery to correct the problem.

When fibroids are surgically removed but the uterus itself is left in place, this type of surgery is referred to as a myomectomy. This is a good surgical solution for patients who are having abnormal bleeding due to fibroids and who may want to become pregnant in the future. 

Surgical removal of the uterus

For some patients, an OBGYN might recommend complete removal of the uterus or a hysterectomy to stop abnormal bleeding.

Removal of the uterus is a permanent way to treat abnormal uterine bleeding caused by fibroids. However, this procedure is only used to treat women who are certain that they don't want to become pregnant in the future because women cannot have children after a hysterectomy.

In uterine fibroid embolization, a piece of equipment known as a fluoroscope is used to inject particles into the arteries of the uterus. This helps to block the delivery of blood to the fibroids so that the fibroids shrink. 

Medications

Numerous medications can potentially stop or reduce abnormal bleeding. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists are one type of medication that can be used to treat abnormal bleeding.
